Mercia HBM riders finish 3rd in interclub 25. Anne Staley wins her 3rd age standard medal & David Clarke finishes 3rd in the Tour Series at Stoke on TrentThe 5-man interclub 25-mile time trial competion held on the Etwall Uttoxeter course saw the Mercia finish in 3rd place again. Derby Mercury were 1st & South Pennine were 2nd. Mercia’s individual times were: Matt Simons 57 32, Jack Hugill 58 02, Christian Aucote 59 05, Phil Machin 59 40, Simon Parker 1 01 06, Keith Staley 1 02 40 & Ben Startin 1 04 41. The best five’s total time was 4 55 25. The others were Derby Mercury 4 39 32, & the South Pennine 4 50 16. The fastest rider was South Pennine’s Charles Taylor in 51 56.
Mercia’s Noel Adams finished in 17th place in the 3rd & 4th category race over 55km at Darley Moor. Then he travelled over to Salford Priors near Alcester in Warwickshire to be one of the competitors in the Redditch Road & Path Club’s 10 mile time trial to time 24 33 on a windy afternoon to finish 18th out of 77 competitors. The winner was Richard Bradley (Shorter Rochford RT) in 20 57.
Anne Staley got her 3rd age standard medal when she rode in the Women’s National 50 mile time trial Championship at Petersfield in Hampshire timing 2 11 28. She was only 1 minute off her personal best in cold windy conditions. The winner was again Julia Shaw (Utag - Yamaha.com) 1 46 46.
In his first open event this year Tony Marlow, Mercia HBM Cycling Club’s Secretary, finished the Melton Olympic 25 mile time trial on the Long Bennington course in 1 10 45 on a cold & windy evening to finish 46th out of an entry of 85 riders. The winner was Loughborough rider Geoff Platts (I ride. co.uk) in 55 40.
David Clarke (Pendragon Colnago) got his 2nd 3rd placing in the Televised Tour Series after the 3rd place in Durham. This one was in Stoke. Clarke rode aggressively to break away from the main field with Ian Bibby (Motorpoint Marshall’s Pasta) & Scott Thwaites (Endura Racing). In the final sprint of the race Bibby was first, Thwaites 2nd & Clark 3rd. Clarke also finished 3rd in the points competion.
Despite other members riding in the 5 man 25-mile team championship. There was a good turn out of riders in the 10-mile evening time trial on the Anslow circuit. With Daniel Partington the fastest on a warm evening the times were as follows: Daniel Partington 25 06, Richard Knott 26 14, Sean Sleigh 26 22, Ryan Clark (Birmingham CC) 27 02, Craig Tucker 27 09, Mick Abbott 27 55, Alec Taylor 28 02, Nick Marriott 30 01, Emily Clarke (Nottingham Clarion) 30 24, Gordon Burton (Nottingham Clarion) 30 25, & Andy Burton 30 22. The first 3 on handicap were Mick Abbott 21 55, Craig Tucker 22 09 & Andy Burton 22 32.
