Simon Smith wins the 25 mile club Championship & Simon Parker is first on handicap in the same event at Yoxall. Peter Collins finishes 9th in race at Curborough


Peter Collins (Mercia HBM CC) got another 2 points on his racing licence when he finished 9th in CC Giro Club’s Road Race at Curborough Sprint Circuit for 3rd & 4th category riders. The race was over one hour's duration. The winner was Paul Bennett (Melton Olympic CC).

David Clark (Pendragon La Col Colnago) finished an excellent 5th in the Edinborough Nocturne, which was won by last year's national road race champion Kristian House (Rapha Condor Sharps). Prior to this race Clarke finished in 21st place in the Science in Sport Criterium at the Preston Sports Arena over 1 hour & 5 laps Richard Hepworth (Cycle Premier Metaltek) was the winner.

David Clarke was the fastest rider but doesn’t qualify as the 25 mile Champion as he is only a second claim member of the Mercia HBM CC. This goes to the second fastest rider Simon Smith. The results are as follows: David Clark (Pendragon Colnago) 55 41 (course record) Simon Smith 59 40, Matt Simons 1 02 04, Jack Hugill 1 02 44, Phil Machin 1 03 31, Simon Parker 1 03 50, Keith Staley 1 04 41, Steve Plummer1 05 34, Peter Collins 1 05 56, Ben Startin 1 07 00, Phil Jones 1 08 09, Craig Tucker 1 09 58, & Tony Marlow 1 10 51. Daniel Partington retired with cramp with 5 miles to go. The first three on handicap were Simon Parker 58 05. (Who wins the Sheila Wain Memorial Cup), Peter Collins 58 26, and Jack Hugill 58 29.

Four Mercia HBM time trialist’s chose to ride in the Walsall Road Clubs 25 mile Time Trial on the A38 between Alrewas & Willington early on Sunday morning. It wasn’t the best of days with a strong headwind on the return leg to Alrewas. Their times were as follows: Matt Simons 1 01 58, Phil Machin 1 02 38, Jack Hugill 1 02 55 & Tony Marlow 1 08 17. Lyme Road Club’s Barry Charlton was the winner in 52 19. The previous day in much better conditions Belper Bicycle Club held their 25 mile time trial on the A50 between Etwall & Uttoxeter Noel Adams timed 57 26 & Anne Staley (Plan B Racing) timed 1 03 59. Barry Charlton was the winner in a much faster time of 49 31.
