Mercia HBM riders compete. In Round 12 of the Notts & Derby Cyclo Cross League at Long Eaton. Excellent turn out in Annual Reliability Trial


The V.C. Long Eaton organised round 12 of the Notts & Derby Cyclo Cross League at Trent Meadows, Long Eaton. In the under 10’s Elliot Waters finished 7th on a fairly flat course ideal for young riders. The winner was newcomer Solomon Kerfoot–Robson, a member of Welsh club Rhos on Sea. Thirty-four riders finished the race.

In the under 12’s Joshua Waters finished 4th with his closest competitor Elliott Dudley (Sherwood Pines) over taking Joshua on the finishing line for 3rd place. The winner was William Gascoyne (Heanor Clarion). In the Seniors race held on a glue pot of a course with lots of mud, long grass & some very large puddles to go through, Justin Waters finished 71st out of 100 rider. Adrian Waters finished 91st & new member Gary Bush in his first Cyclo Cross 92nd. The winner was Ben Eedy (Empella Cyclo Cross.com).

There was a good turnout of riders in the Mercia HBM Cycling Club Annual Reliability Trial with 54 riders starting in the 100km & 26 in the 50 km. The start of & finish of the trials was at the club’s headquarters, the Shobnall Sports & Social Club. The route was through Hanbury, Marchington, Bramsall, and Milwich & Sandon to Hopton Heath. Then on through Milford Common, crossing over Cannock Chase to Rugeley, then back to the start crossing over Blithfield Reservoir to Abbots Bromley & then through Hoar Cross over the Scotch Hills to Dunstall & back to Burton. The 50km route was the same as the 100 km to Marchington, and then went through Kingston Blithe & Newton before crossing Blithfield Reservoir to continue along the same roads as the 100 km back to Burton.

The number or riders in the Mercia HBM CC taking part was 24 in total. 12 in the 100km & 12 in the 50km. Riders completing the 100 km within 4.5 hrs were Phil Machin, Keith Staley, Jeff Lea, Simon Smith, Roger Owen, Simon Parker, Richard Knott, Paul Ironside, Sam Hicks, Ben Startin, Peter Collins & Noel Adams.
