Mercia Report 20-09-09
Simons & Machin record an excellent time in 25 mile 2 up time trial. Joshua Waters is 4th in the 2nd SRAM Notts & Derby Cyclo Cross.
Matt Simons & Phil Machin rode very well together to finish in 7th place in the Walsall RC 2 up team time trial between Alrewas, Willington & Fradley in a time of 57 21. Jack Hugill & Keith Staley timed 1 00 23 for 12th place. In 13th place were Anne & Alistair Staley (Plan B RT) in 1 01 19. Former Mercia members Elizabeth Pilkington (Derby Mercury RC) & John Read (South Pennine RC) timed 1 06 12. The winners were the promoting club pair Stuart Walker & Scott Westwood in 49 44.
The previous day Jack Hugill rode in the Stone Wheelers 25 mile time trial on the Blythe Bridge Uttoxeter course timing 1 00 45. A Shorter Rochford Racing Team member timed 49 02 to win the time trial.
Kieron Patterson & Peter Rose travelled to Alcester in Warwickshire to ride in the Midlands Veterans open to all ages 10 mile time trial on a new course between Dunnington Norton Salford Prior & Alcester. Unfortunately the returning 6 mile leg from Norton was into the northerly wind making times slower. Peter timed 30 28 his fastest ten mile time this year breaking his age standard by 47 seconds Kieron timed 31 04. The winner was Rob Weare (Team Midland) in 21 58.
The Waters brothers travelled to Thornbridge Hall near Bakewell for the 2nd event in the SRAM Notts & Derby Cyclo Cross League race promoted by Zepnat.com Racing Team. In the under 12's Joshua Waters was a close 4th just beaten on the finishing line by the top three. Bailey finished 9th out of the 24 finishers. The winner was William Gascoyne (Heanor Clarion). In the under 10's seven year old Elliott started last of the 55 starters due to last minute change of the starting position, he rode very well to finish 15th. The winner was Megan James of the Abergavenny R.C.
David Clarke's (Pendragon/Kalas) best recent road racing result was 9th place in the 1 hour SIS Criterium held round Preston University, won by Andrew Tinsley (Science in Sport RT). Clarke was 17th out of 52 finishers in the Maxgear 100 kilometre road race held at Elswick in Lancashire. This race was won by Kit Gilham(Sigma Sport Specialised Sportfull RT) Clarke was also 17th in the Warwick Town Centre races over 1 hour duration. Halfords Bike Hut rider Ian Wilkinson won the race.
The final positions in the 10 mile evening time trial handicap points competion were as follows: Keith Staley 31, Mick Abbott 25, Jack Hugill 24, Peter Rose 23, Adrian Waters 22, Peter Collins 17, Simon Parker 14, Andrew Wendle 12, Phil Knott 10, Jeff Lea 9, Nick Marriott 7, Jeff Slinn 6, Ben Startin 5, Tony Marlow 3, Phil Jones 2, Justin Waters, Mark Eccleston & Kieron Patterson 1 point each.
