Mercia Report 10-05-09

Mercia HBM members Mark Ward & Colin Johnson entered the Wiggle Enduro 6 hour mountain bike team race in the Fun Men category, racing as the Bretby Cycling Club at Catton Park, finishing in 132 out of 164 teams. They covered 9 laps of the 8 mile circuit in the 6 hours. The winning team BAD Association Bikes achieved 15 laps in 6 hours. Mark also competed in the one lap night time trial in 31 12 finishing 38th out of 60 competitors. The winner Philip Morris covered the 8 miles in 24 13. over 500 riders took part in the 8 different races.

David Clarke finished 5th in the latest Thursday evening road race over 60 kilometres at Mallory Park for Elite & 1st category riders. The winner was Jonathan Mozely of The Madison Professional Cycling Team.

Simon Parker competed in the Tuesday evening race at Mallory Park also over 60 kilometres for 3rd & 4th category riders. Finishing just out of the top 10 placings. The winner was Paul Fostun (Raleigh Avanti Racing Team).

Despite strong windy conditions & the threat of heavy rain there were 18 competitors in the latest evening time trial on the Anslow circuit. David Clarke timed 23 12 to beat Sean Sleigh (Plan B) who timed 24 12. In third place was Mercia HBM rider Simon Smith in 24 58. The rest of the riders & times were Simon Parker 26 37, Jack Hugill 27 21, Jeff Slinn 27 37, Peter Collins 27 39, Mark Eccleston 27 49, Ben Startin 27 49, Alec Taylor 27 56, Andrew Wendle 29 16, Mark Ward 29 45, Adrian Waters 30 16, Colin Johnson 30 29, Keiron Patterson 30 51, Andy Burton 31 56, Peter Rose 36 34 & at 1 lap Dave Peters 18 29.
