Mercia Report 15-02-09

The annual buffet & prise presentation was held at the Castle Hotel Hatton. Our guests included councillors Jim Muir & Susan Grier. Peter Wain & his daughter Margaret Woolley to present the Sheila Wain Memorial trophy. Our guest of honour was Mark Sheffield of Sheffield Cycles. Our sponsors Howard & Dawn Bond were also in attendance.

Jim Muir spoke about his interest in supporting sports clubs & activity groups through charity trusts, for example the Burton East Sports Trust. Mark Sheffield spoke about his early days when he joined the club & how he progressed with helpful advise from senior members & better equipment. Mark was keen to see more youth take up cycling & spoke about the club's Cyclo Cross at Rosliston Forestry Centre as a way forward. Indeed Mark contributes to the Under 12's event with donated prises. It was fitting that there were were three youth awards at the presentation to Joshua Waters, Bailey Waters & Elliot Waters.
