Ninety Two riders compete Mercia HBM CC 25 mile open Time TrialMercia HBM’s open 25 mile time trial held on the A38 between Alrewas, Willington & Fradley attracted 92 riders including tandems last Sunday. It was a rather windy day with the return leg to Fradley being particularly hard. Five Mercia riders started the time trial. The fastest was Matt Simons in 1 03 26, followed by Simon Parker 1 05 41, Phil Jones 1 08 04, Adrian Waters 1 13 12,unfortunately Keith Staley did not finish due to a rear wheel axel breaking. The winner was Scott Povey ( Shirley RC) in 53 12.
Five Mercia HBM members were in the field of 81 riders in the Plan B open 10 mile time trial on the Etwall Foston course. The fastest of the five was Keith Staley in 24 08, followed by Gary Brown in 24 37, Simon Parker 25 29, Peter Rose 29 43, Mark Eccleston 29 52, including 2 minutes late start due to chain problems. The winner was David Yates (North Notts. Olympic) in 21 14.
Seventeen riders completed the club’s evening time trial on the Anslow circuit. Sean Sleigh (Plan B) was again the fastest 23 47. Keith Staley was second in 25 16 & Simon Parker was third in 25 49. The other times were Phil Jones 26 46, Alec Taylor 27 25, Mark Eccleston 27 34, Ben Startin (Burton CTC) 28 00, Mark Ward 28 03, Neil Waters (CC Giro) 28 09, Andrew Wendle 28 23, Colin Johnson 28 56, Neil Sleigh (Plan B) 28 59, Adrian Waters 29 26, Justin Waters 29 56, Phil Knott 33 30, Peter Rose 35 21 & at 1 lap Dave Peters 17 37.
