DAVID CLARKE WINS SILVER MEDAL IN THE NATIONAL HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP
David Clarke (Team Nippo KFS) went one place better than last year when he finished second in the National Hillclimb Championship held on the seafront climb of Peak Hill in sunny conditions at Sidmouth in Devon. The climb was a mile in length at a gradient of 1 in 5. The winner was the favourite James Dobbin (Arctic Shorter Rochford R.T.) who recorded his tenth win of the Hillclimb season to beat Clarke by a massive 23.3 seconds. Dobbin in 4:44. 0 slashed 34.7 seconds off his previous best time on the hill. Clarke’s time of 5:07.3 was only .4 of a second better than a previous champion Jonathon Dayus (Arctic Shorter Rochford) who was third & a member of the winning team. Another former champion Jim Henderson (Southport C.C.) was fourth in 5:10.7.
